Maintenance of Used Charmilles: Professionalism and Prevention at its Core Maintaining a used charmill is not simply a matter of "repairing what breaks down," but a systematic and professional process designed to restore its accuracy and ensure long-term stable operation. The core of its maintenance philosophy lies in "assessment, maintenance, and professional repair."

1. Comprehensive Assessment and Precision Adjustment: Laying the Foundation for Maintenance The first step after purchasing used equipment is a comprehensive "check-up." This goes far beyond surface cleaning and must be performed by experienced engineers:

Mechanical Accuracy Testing: Using professional tools such as laser interferometers and ballbars, the positioning accuracy, repeatability, and perpendicularity of the X, Y, and Z axes are tested. This is the foundation for ensuring machining accuracy.

Electrical System Inspection: The working status of the power supply, servo drive, and pulse power generator is checked, and aging and potential failure risks are assessed.

Liquid System Cleaning: The water tank and pipes are thoroughly cleaned, and the dielectric fluid (deionized water) is replaced or strictly filtered to ensure that the resistivity meets the standards, as the liquid system is the lifeline for stable EDM and achieving the required surface quality.

2. Systematic Preventive Maintenance: Ensuring Stable Operation
Daily and periodic preventive maintenance is key to maintaining the value of used machine tools:

Mechanical Components: Regularly check and adjust the clearance and preload of guide rails and lead screws to ensure smooth transmission. Lubricate lead screws, guide rails, and bearings on time to prevent abnormal wear.

Liquid and Filtration Systems: This is of paramount importance. Regularly clean the water tank, replace filter elements, and strictly monitor the resistivity, temperature, and cleanliness of the dielectric fluid. Impure dielectric fluid will directly lead to accelerated electrode wire wear, low processing efficiency, and surface quality defects.

Critical Component Monitoring and Replacement: Closely monitor the condition of vulnerable parts such as conductive blocks, guide nozzles, and pressure pumps. Conductive blocks with deep grooves must be replaced immediately; otherwise, they will cut the electrode wire and affect processing stability.

3. Professional Repair and Refurbishment: Value Recreation

For the performance degradation of core components, professional repair is a necessary choice:

Precision Repair (Scraping): When wear on the machine tool table or guide rails causes precision deviations, professional technicians must manually scrape to restore its original flatness and straightness. This is the maintenance that best demonstrates technical expertise.

Control System Upgrade: For outdated CNC systems, upgrading to a more modern CNC system can be considered. This not only solves the problem of scarce spare parts but also improves the ease of use and functionality of the equipment.
